Earthquake

Anyone have any crazy earthquake stories?

All I have is that I was on a bus going to Delhi. I guess you could say that being on a local bus in this country is like being in an earthquake, so there is no way I would've noticed anything.

The death toll is 30,000 and counting if anyone doesn't know....

Hey Kent we (most of the new revitalized 36C) also spent the w/end in Delhi, have a good time? As a result we also knew nothing of the quake until messages came through…it’s pretty scary stuff. I’ve read there was 2 earthquake-related deaths in Chandigarh, now that’s too close for my liking!

Hey Jean,

I was in Gurgaon for the weekend and, ya, it was fun. It was nice to spend some time with Indians that were living on their own and not under the watchful eye of their parents.

I did hear that one woman died of a heart attack in Mohali as a result of the earthquake.

How was your trip?

Yes Nicholas told us that’s where you were staying, is it like a party zone or something? We ‘visited’ two different nightclubs…strange, strange places!! Makes you appreciate the silk lounge!!!

I think the other earthquake related victim was a little kid; it was so strange to see pictures of places like Amritsar in the paper with collapsed buildings…I can just hear my father mumbling ’I told her so/ told her not to go’!
And just so everyone is aware I read a report in one paper that said a big earthquake in the Himalayas region was long overdue according to experts.

Theek hai, Nacho.

Anyways, Gurgaon is quite the place. It's all shopping malls (i've heard something like 54 are planned or have already been built). Didn't actually get to the centre of Gurgaon, but apparently is all international restaurants and shopping. The people I stayed with said that all the clubbers still go to delhi to party.

Well, since noone from 38 posted anything, i'll take the honours...
It was a lovely morning and everyone was awake. And by everyone i mean a lot of people. The regulars of 38 house, i.e. Emil, Julia, Heera, Justyna, Dobi (she was leaving in a couple of hours, btw), Nicholas, Nina, Me; and the four Poles (Mihao, Magda, Asia n 1 more, i cant remember her name). In short, a lot of people...
[Oh, Carolina wasn't there. She was on her way to work, so on her bicycle, and she missed it too, coz she didn't feel anything.]

Everyone was awake and doing something or the other (oh, except Emil, who was still sleeping). And then there was a slight shaking of the floor. At first, everyone thought that we're getting disoriented (individually), but when we looked at each others' faces, we ralised that everyone's experiencing this 'disorientation', and then it hit (figuratively).
We started moving downstairs "in an orderly manner". Oh, Nicholas was taking a shower and had to be called out and Emil had to be woken up.
Once down, everyone from the nearby houses were also out on the road. Although, noone from the Landlord/Landlady's family was seen outside.

I remember someone commented that the quake was probably caused by the landlady and she must have wanted to check as to how many people are staying in the apartment, and was probably counting us through one of her windows.

When the 'paranoia' settled, we went upstairs and everything went back to 'normal', though i must say that i did notice a little hurriedness in packing-up, as displayed by the Five Poles (Dobi and the other 4). ;P
